Last year's VFX Advantage took place on 11 March 2011. The one-day conference was presented by the Directors Guild with event partners Skillset and BAFTA and with the media support of movieScope.
"The VFX advantage event gave me a great insight into the current approaches in visual effects. In particular the possibilities and options that are currently available in CGI creatures. As I prepared to start Love Bite, a low budget Werewolf film, it enabled me to make a deal more sense in the budgeting and creative discussions leading up to my shoot and allowed me to maximize what little money we had to great effect."
ANDY DE EMMONY - Director West is West and Love Bite [to be released in August 2012]
"I found last years VFX Advantage Conference to be both informative and entertaining. I'm no techno-head, and often talk of CGI can fry my brain, but what clearly came across was that these crafts-men and women love making movies as much as I do. VFX are a part of the visual language of story telling now, and they allow film-makers total freedom of imagination. They are an important tool, and as directors we have a responsibility to understand and utilise this tool, sometimes through minimum use, to achieve maximum effect."
NEIL MARSHALL - Writer & Director The Descent and Dog Soldiers
"VFX Advantage 2011 was a fantastic opportunity to hear from a range of industry practitioners about what they are working on and understanding what the challenges are in producing VFX, whatever the budget and scale of production. There was a lot of useful practical information as well as a chance to meet some great people."
TRACEY JOSEPH, Head of Production Film4
"Totally informative, fascinating and well put together on the day."
PETER KINKEAD - Co-producer Conspiracy of Silence
"It's become very clear how much VFX forms a huge part of the filmmaking process, and this conference provides access and experience, with substantial examples, all in one place and one time. Invaluable! And a good networking opportunity included. Thoroughly recommended."
SHARON ODAMS - Producer & Director Life Bonds
